“I stayed at AMFM Healthcare in Carlsbad for one week, and my experience was extremely distressing and nothing like what was advertised. Here are the issues I personally experienced during my short stay: Unprofessional and untrained-feeling staff: No staff members wore name badges or identification. Clients never knew who was a counselor, technician, or who was even authorized to be in the home. The atmosphere felt more like being babysat than receiving professional treatment. Unknown men entering the house without warning: Several unknown male individuals walked into the facility with no announcement, no explanation of their role, and no reassurance for client safety. For someone with PTSD, this was alarming and unsafe. The house did not match the website at all: The Carlsbad location was dirty, worn, and poorly maintained, nothing like the polished photos AMFM promotes online. Almost no clinical presence: There was no nurse on site, and contact with the psychiatrist or therapist was extremely brief — sometimes only a couple minutes long or not at all. High turnover in a single week: Residents came and left constantly. New people arrived and then left again within days. It created instability and felt chaotic. Failure to provide promised services: The daily schedule was not followed. Groups almost never happened. The “classes” offered were mostly coloring pages, similar to preschool activities. Outings and meetings were almost always canceled due to lack of staff or because one person didn’t want to go. Not a single AA, NA, or DV meeting during my entire week: Outings only occurred if two staff were on shift AND if every single resident agreed — which never happened. Electronics taken without clear explanation: Devices were removed without a written policy, making it hard to document conditions or maintain communication. Complaints ignored or dismissed: We took our own vitals. No nurse on site. When clients asked questions about missing services, we were ignored, brushed off, or treated like a problem. Staff frequently said “I don’t know” and never followed up. Staff used my credit card to purchase tea. Wanted my pin. But I refused. A week-long failure to coordinate basic medical screening: I went 7 days without the required TB test or chest X-ray, even though I tried to attend twice. My request to reschedule while I was sick was later mis-documented as “refusal.” Documenting false information: After I asked why services weren’t being provided, incorrect information suddenly appeared in my file that did not reflect what actually happened. Emotionally harmful and retraumatizing responses: If you are a Veteran please save yourselves and go elsewhere. I’m a veteran and completely scarred from this place. During a PTSD crisis, I was met with dismissiveness, laughter, and threats instead of support. This was extremely damaging to my mental health. I left with more trauma than I arrived with: In only one week, the lack of structure, safety, professionalism, and basic care caused more emotional harm instead of healing. Because of my experience, I filed grievances about the quality of care, negligence, failure to provide promised services, and concerns about insurance billing and Title 9 violations. I hope this honest review helps others seeking treatment understand what they might experience at the Carlsbad location. Other reviews don’t post pictures.”

“My stay here gifted me a new lease on life! The staff was incredible: kind, caring and very respectful of time, space and needs. Groups were always informative as I learned better coping strategies and ways to manage my sobriety and mental health symptoms. Special shout out to JoAnn, Angie, Angelina, Tori, and the rest of the day and night crew for your very hard work and unwavering loving kindness! Shout out to group facilitators as well! Austin, Paola, Ashleigh and the rest of the hard working facilitators did a fine job! Thank you to therapists and Case Managers, Kelly, Pia, Karissa! And who could forget Chef Amy?! Her secret ingredient: “LOVE!” You made sure we were well nourished to tackle the hard stuff! I cannot say enough good things about A Mission for Michael! My sincerest thank you!”

“My 22 year old daughter stayed for 45 days at this Golden location and was treated with compassion and dignity as she navigated through her mental health crisis. The staff who stayed with her listened to her concerns and feelings, tried as best as they could accommodate her wishes while safeguarding her. Daily exercise, delivered meals, medication review with a psychiatris , group and private thetpt with clinicians, as well as outings a couple times a week, it was a good “resting spot” for her. The staff also helped her find the next location for continued therapy..Through a very challenging and difficult time, I feel AMFM is a wonderful choice for a person/family in crisis.”

“I was here in both 2025 and 2026. GoldenBush was not only my favorite and the most helpful program of the ones I’ve done, it was also my second home for the two months both times. Kelly helped me process things I’d been holding on to for years in way that made me feel light and whole, Pia was always ready to support and meet me where I was at each step of the way. Both of them really helped me truely believe in myself again. Therapy and Case Management aside, I love the groups. Paola teaches grounding techniques not just through yoga and breathwork but through polyvagal theory and the vagus nerve. Tony is the perfect fitness instructor for a mental health based program and truely meets you where you are at while challenging you. Chef is not just cooking your meals but welcoming you into the community of the house and teaching you tricks on Wednesday. As for other process and therapy groups besides the ones with Kelly and Pia, the facilitators are solid and truely care. Austin has a great perspective on recovery and mental health while making his groups accessible and engaging for everyone. Julia is simply fab, as a facilitator and a weekend therapist. Maddy was also very helpful as a supplemental therapist. This time I am headed to PHP (thanks Karissa!!!) and feel truely ready and excited for my next step. The on-sight care staff in the houses (client coordinators) truely care, which makes treatment feel less clinical and more like a place to heal. (Shout out to: Angelina, Lisanna, Angie, Joann, Julie, Sarah, Erica, and Kris) Thank you AMFM for being such a massive part of my healing journey. ❤️‍🩹 Definitely recommend. 💞 💞 💖”
